| - an introduction: the other harvard legacy | This disorientation guide provides an introduction to the many holes in Harvard's carefully-crafted image. It is intended to encourage first-years to think critically about the place they own for the next four years. Because we do not believe that the articles within highlight all of the ongoing struggles at this campus, please feel free to contribute articles and make suggestions; we hope that this will evolve into a much more collaborative project over which the entire student community can claim some kind of ownership. It is very much a work in progress. It is also not a project of the Student Labor Action Movement (SLAM). Though all of the editors and many of the contributors participate in SLAM, we do not want to give the impression that the disguide is produced by a group of people with a fixed agenda. We, as editors, do not necessarily agree with all of the points made by all of the authors within. Correspondingly, SLAM does not necessarily endorse all of the material. What we do all agree upon is the premise of this disguide; our campus, our classes, our schedules, and our superiors all discourage us from thinking twice about the place we live in. It is all too easy to thrive within the "Harvard Bubble". We ask that you nip those illusions in the bud; the sooner we become cognizant of the systems of suffering upon which our privileges rest, the sooner we can work to revolutionize our lives, and Harvard. |
